First Laugh
It’s the small things in life that make it all worth it. Here is one of them:
Ethan’s first tooth
Tonight while he was in the bath I noticed a bit more white in his mouth than I remembered. We had a closer look and sure enough there was a tooth just breaking through the surface of the gum.
The funny thing is that we hadn’t really noticed too much discomfort. I had feeling that it wasn’t far away when he was sucking on my finger the other night.
Hopefully all his teeth. Come through without too much pain. I have a feeling he has his mother’s pain threashhold.
I’ve been busy
Wow, I have been so busy since those floors went in I haven’t had time to upload any photos of Ethan (the reason for all they busy-ness) here! Most people will have seen them on Facebook, but I do like to put stuff outside the walled garden every now and then ![]()
This is my favourite. The photographer said she usually Photoshop’s this type of photo with a composite of upper and lower images where the parents hold the chin and forehead in each, but Stacey just let go and he held this pose all by himself (not even 2 weeks old at this point!)
Another classic pose here which helps you get a perspective on how small they start out!
I like this one as it shows off our new floors with our new bub ![]()
A bit thanks to K Etherington for these photos, I’ll recommend her to anyone with a newborn, she’s a real pro!
If I get a chance I’ll put up some of the photos we’ve taken of him soon (there are about 1500 already I think!)
Floors Finished!
The final work on our new Marri floors was finished yesterday!
The end result looks great! We’re really happy with the whole outcome, from the type of wood to the quality of the finish.
Here are some pictures I took through the windows last night (won’t go in there until at least tomorrow to allow it to properly dry):

Floors are going in!
Well, it’s been a long time since I posted an update here, but I guess that is mainly because there hasn’t been much going on around the house. That has all changed in the last week or so as our long awaited flooring is now being installed.
The process started when we actually decided what type of wood to get! We settled on solid Marri boards that are 125mm wide and 19mm thick.
We purchased the boards and had them delivered into the front lounge to acclimatise to the house.
Over the weekend Stacey’s parents and Sister & Brother-In-Law came over and helped us move all of the furniture out of the areas that were being done (pretty much all the living areas!).
For the rest of the week out living area was reduced to 2 outdoor lounges and the old TV stand.
Once they had sat in the house for a week I took about 10 boards back to where we got them from to be moisture tested to make sure they were ready to be laid.
The results came back perfect around 10% moisture content. Apparently this is historically a very low number so the boards won’t get any dryer than this.
So now that the board were ready to go, Jeremy (from the cricket club) was ready to start laying them.
The first step was the moisture barrier on the concrete so that the boards don’t warp while they’re sitting on the floor.
Once this had dried over night Jeremy came back and started laying the boards.
Good progress was made on the first day, but not as good as Jez was expecting. A 2 day job was quickly turning into a 3 day job.
Today Jez is just finishing off the front lounge room and the hallway.
Then we’ll leave the boards for about a week before we get them sanded and polished which will finish off one of the biggest jobs we done around the house (definitely the most disruptive!).
More photos to come once the floor is finished!
Long Time Coming
It’s been over 3 years since I last got to 50, and that was in the 2nd innings of a lost game. This one feels so much better at the start of a game to set up our score.
I’m not going to say it was chanceless, far from it. But apart from a few bad choices that were thankfully dropped, it showed me a basic fact of Cricket: Bat for a long time and you’ll make runs.
Doesn’t say it here, but I was out in the 28th over of a 40 over game going for quick runs with plenty of wickets in hand.

New Camera
We got a new camera for Christmas this year. A present to ourselves and from everyone (vouchers, credit card points & cash). It is a Canon EOS 500D Digital SLR.
We had a quick play around with it last night at Mum’s house for dinner. As expected it takes really good photos, but I look forward to getting to know how to use its full features in the coming months.
Here is another panorama of the back yard at our house. Those plants are really starting to grow!
